Matchday Rituals with Nakeira & Blaise, presented by Athletic Brewing
Dad started following Arsenal in ’89 after we won the First Division title at Anfield. Pretty much everyone in the family has been an Arsenal supporter ever since.
Whether we’re watching it at home, at a pub, or at the game, it’s always a great time spent together. There’s something about this club that just can’t be replicated. Matchdays are truly special – that sense of camaraderie and unwavering support. You know when you’re visiting Emirates Stadium, the atmosphere will be amazing regardless of the outcome.
Our matchday routine is simple: get dressed, make the trek from south London to Highbury and Islington station and leg it from there. If we’re more organised, we might take a trip to Le Mercury or Beam for a pre-match meal. If we’re even more organised than that, we’ll pop in to see Charlie Allen – a local celebrity tailor who made dad’s wedding suit in 1998.
It’s great that we’re able to share this love of Arsenal together. We get to spend a lot of quality time with each-other and it also allows us to talk about lots of things as well as the football. We also love getting together to look back on Arsenal’s journey, watching archival content, the great Arsène days and I get to learn a lot from dad about his experience following the club.
After all, family and inclusivity are always at the heart of Arsenal. It will always be cross-generational.
